Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features a number of conveniences on top of the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
